Baby Shower cake with pram
I haven’t been asked to make a baby shower cake before and so this was a bit of a new one on me this week. Alex’s friends were getting together from around the country to celebrate her good news of a baby girl.
The cake was a freshly baked but the decoration took a little planning and preparation beforehand. With baby showers being big in the USA I browsed one of my favourite reference sites Pink Cake Box in New Jersey who have a great range of design and ideas but in the end the theme was to have a baby teddy in a traditional pram, all made from icing.
I cut the each part for the pram from rolled icing but these needed to set before I could construct it. I was keen to get the look of a traditional baby pram out of the icing, something like a classic Silver Cross, but it had support itself and hold the icing bear so it couldn’t be exactly the same. It all came together in the end with the final touch being the canopy with a crimped edge. The pink cake was then finished off with a white icing bow and a congratulations message to Alex around the base.
